Commissions and Requests:

Two different approaches

I am pleased to consider both commissions and requests. I make a distinction between the two in this way:

A commission is a more limited and specific arrangement where a sizable percentage of the piece is paid for prior to my beginning the work.  Specifics of the piece are formalized in advance.

A request piece involves my taking down all the relevant information from you pertaining to a future painting.  From there I work this request into my schedule and at my leisure.  Requests are more often the most agreeable to everyone.  Highly particular or unusual requests are better thought of as commissions, and would need to be treated as such.

Like many artists I usually base my pricing on the size of a painting, for want of a better system.  Commissions and requests require an additional 10% fee added to my normal pricing by size; perhaps more, depending on the requirements for the painting.
